Holistic Wellness
Can I get real with you for a second? The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that in the united states 6 in 10 adults have a chronic disease and 4 in 10 have two or more. Chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes are the leading cause of death and disability in the United States. I’m not going to lie, this information is absolutely horrifying. So I ask, what are you going to do about it? How can we as a community prevent chronic disease? The answer is one person, one day at a time with a holistic approach to wellness.
Health is commonly defined as the absence of disease or illness. However, our holistic approach will show a much broader picture. Holistic wellness is the practice of treating the whole mind, body, and spirit. This blog will focus on the six dimensions of wellness model promoted by The National Wellness Institute (NWI) by offering counsel in these areas. This model consists of Occupational, Physical, Social, Intellectual, Spiritual, and Emotional. Leading a healthy lifestyle can be overwhelming, so let’s do it together!
